Right Up Our Alley
So much to do in Helena’s Reeder’s Alley
Spring has sprung and MPA is so excited to announce the latest news from our headquarters in Reeder's Alley in Helena! MPA in partnership with the Montana Heritage Commission (MHC) and the Helena Tourism Alliance (HTA) are working to re-open the Pioneer Cabin, one of Helena’s oldest standing homes, for tours and self-guided visits. For many years, visitors to Reeder’s Alley could peek in through the windows and get a quick glimpse of pioneer life in Helena, but after minor repairs and new additions, visitors will now be able to step into the interior of an 1864 log home and learn about its history from interpretive displays. The HTA is hosting a Reeder’s Alley Open House on June 11 from 6 pm to 9 pm to kick off the tourist season. MPA will also be open that night for drinks and treats.
To accommodate visitors, the HTA has opened a new Visitor’s Center just off the parking lot where tourists can find information on tours, browse the brochure racks, grab a cold drink, and purchase souvenirs and books. And, for the literary tourist, MPA has installed a Little Free Library in the alley. The tiny little library on a post, sponsored by Helena Middle School and Central School, is initially featuring Montana history books, free for the taking. We hope patrons will also add their gently used history titles to the little box.
These improvements join the MHC’s new Reeder’s Alley Interpretive and Convention Center which features a small entrance gallery with historical panels and a streaming video about Reeder’s Alley history. The adjacent meeting room is excellent for small to medium size groups (under 50) and is equipped with modern media devices for presentations and communications. For rental information, contact Heidi or Anna at Helena Tourism Alliance, 449-1270. We hope to see you soon in Reeder’s Alley!
