MONTANA'S MOST
ENDANGERED PLACES 2006

Homestead Depot, Sheridan County homestead

In 2002, Burlington Northern Santa Fe planned to demolish the building, but thankfully have not done so yet. Montana’s railroad depots are a fast disappearing resource, and yet these buildings are one of the few reminders of what brought settlement and prosperity to our great state. While many depots have already been moved or demolished, there are success stories such as the recent renovation and reuse of the stately downtown depot in Billings as a convention center; or the restoration of the lovely Geraldine Depot in Choteau County as a museum.
