Hand Raised: The Barns of Montana
by Chere Jiusto and Christine W. Brown Photographs by Tom Ferris
Montana Historical Society Press 2011
Hand Raised: The Barns of Montana features more than 300 pages of breathtaking barn photographs by acclaimed photographer Tom Ferris, accompanied by diverse and intriguing stories of Montana's agricultural history. Authors Chere Jiusto and Christine Brown spent a good part of the last five years talking to ranchers and farmers, researching local and family history, and writing captivating stories of dozens of barns and their owners. Hand Raised: The Barns of Montana recognizes these invaluable buildings, encourages their preservation, and honors the ranch and farm families that built them.
MPA is humbled and honored to report that Hand Raised: The Barns of Montana was the recipient of the 2012 High Plains Book Award for Best Nonfiction and also was among four books named as an Honor Book by the Montana Book Award committee back in April 2012.
If you love barns and hate to see them vanish, or if you're one of so many of us with a rancher or farmer in the family, this is the book for you!
