Historic Preservation Month Celebration Starts in Missoula
MPA is kicking off National Historic Preservation Month with a fast-paced and fun celebration in downtown Missoula. The event celebrates 100 Years of the National Park Service, 50 years of the National Historic Preservation Act, and 27 years of the Missoula Historic Preservation program.
Special guest speakers include Jennifer Buddenborg, Senior Field Officer, National Trust for Historic Preservation. Jennifer will offer a national perspective on the history of preserving heritage places. Kate Hampton of the State Historic Preservation Office will feature slides of shining examples of Great Saves in downtown Missoula. And, MPA's own Chere Jiusto, will present a compelling slideshow featuring 50 years of Great Saves of historic buildings and places across Montana.
The whirlwind one-hour presentation will end with an overview of preservation resources and tools, a quick tour of the Elk’s Building, and photo opportunities at historic Missoula buildings with “This Place Matters” signage. The event is free and open to the public. Brown bag lunches welcome.
